We hear this a lot, that we’re rolling from one ‘crises’ to the next; Covid-19 global shutdown, Presidential election, Reddit/Gamestop market manipulation and the end of the financial markets as we know them, inflation, stock market overvaluation, wildfires largest on record, US debt, housing bubble. And these are just within the last 18 months!

Est. reading time - 10 minutes

We’ve had a very strong start to the year as vaccine roll outs continue to pave the way for economies to ease restrictions, businesses to start spending (hiring and implementing the plans put on hold throughout 2020) and consumers to start spending (housing, cars and travel).

Equity markets buoyed by this confidence have had a strong quarter, commodity prices continued their rise as consumption increases and we’re finally seeing some inflation filter through – more on this later.

UK State Pension

We often find that British expats are surprised to discover they still qualify for a State Pension (SP) in the UK. If you worked in the UK for at least 10 years (and paid National Insurance contributions during that time) then you will qualify for the SP, in most cases even if you “opted out” as part of your workplace pension.
